Voldy
Used to go to a Gents' Hairdressers on South side, think it was No 16 ( had an angled doorway with No 14) "Ron Rustlings" in the 40's. His partner moved to an upstairs location at 54 (or 56) Church Street (junction with Campo Lane) around 1950 when Ron presumably retired.

stpetre
On that side of Chapel Walk, the 1973 Kelly's Directory (compiled in 1972) lists: ....Richard Shops (corner of Fargate) ....Hart's wallpaper ....Lewis's jewellers ....Sidewalk restaurant ....Harry Fenton outfitters ....Granelli Bros., confectioners ....Kew House Farm Ltd, snack bar ....Thorntons, confectioners ....Tie & Shirt Gallery ....Jane Jones boutique ....Strand greetings cards ....Werff Bros. boutique ....Tip Top Discount Stores ....H. Earnshaw, shoes 'Hart's Wallpaper', that being Harry Hart who also owned the 'Sidewalk Cafe'.
rainbow2411
Chapel walk was a lovely shopping area in the 60's, we often hung out in the Sidewalk, we choose my engagement ring from Lewis's and I bought my Rum Truffles and Diplomat chocs from Thorntons (still do) Happy days

hillsbro
...That's a good list Mr.H. but I always thought that 'Harry Fenton's' was on the 'Cann's' side not the 'Sidewalk Cafe' side unless they moved of course.Hi stpetre - entries in Kelly's directories for the early 1970s show Harry Fenton at No 24 between the Sidewalk and Granelli's as on the list above, but from the late 1960s he was also on the other side at No 29, near Ward's bookshop.
