newbie24
Hi everyone, I'm looking to start a family tree as a present for my dad and am rather unsure as to how to get started. I have a small amount of information to get me going such as birth certificates and photos but don't know where to go from here. I wondered if there was anyone out there who would be willing to help me get started? Although not from Sheffield, my dad's Grandfather worked and died on the Sheffield tramways so i'm hoping someone could shed some light on possible tram archives available to the public? Many thanks. DUFFEMS
Always start with what you already know i.e. your parents details, marriage/dates of birth etc. then you can ascertain their parents from that. You then systematically work your way back proving as you go with the relevant certificates. Once you get to 1901 you can relate to censuses which go back every 10 years until 1841. There are 2 excellent sites where you can post messages asking for assistance and guidance: http://www.sheffieldfhs.org.uk/ http://sheff-indexers.thewholeshebang.org/ These are very active sites so you will always get help from people. Good luck and let me know how you go on. Regards, Duffems.
