arrodbo
Can anyone recall Mrs Palin who used to have the paper shop on Penistone Road between the bottom of Parkside Rd and the corner of Winster Rd. The reason i ask is that i walked past it (now a House) and the sign is still just about visible on the frontage high up near the guttering. It brought back memories of the early 1950s when we used to fetch our papers.
caz2go
I noticed the sign the other day ,but couldnt make out the name . I can remember as a child going into the shop for a bundle of firewood. There was a cafe a few doors up from there owned by the taylors .
hillsbro
I just looked at the 1925 Kelly's directory. This shows "Leonard C. Payling, tobacconist" at 969 Penistone Road. By 1972 the occupant was "Mrs H. Payling" with no trade mentioned. "S. Taylor, snack bar" is given for No 981.
