MMR, autism and the media

Recommended Posts

Oh really? I did a thread search before I started. If you'd be kind enough to link me...

apologies Ktb, I've just confused you.

Fishcake was being critical of the media on an entirely different subject, it's just when you are skipping through threads they can merge together as if everyone is reading along with you.

back on topic, I agree with all the rational thinkers so far on this subject. if I remember correctly wasn't the Daily Mail the main culprit?

we need to remember that newspapers are people, and some people are not rational. not only that but the newspapers can even make a position even more entrenched in some sort of psychological confirmation bias way. just like some idiot forum posters*. if we say it often enough, and loud enough, perhaps people will believe us.

* not naming names

:hihi:

The "debunking" of Dr. Wakefield was done by the pro-vaccine lobby!!

You should read the latest news about it -- He has been essentially vindicated!!

The debunking of Dr. Wakefield was done by merely looking at the statistics for autism and MMR vaccines in other countries. No lobbies were involved, just blatantly obvious facts.

Does a pro-vaccine lobby even exist? I suppose it should, given that vaccines prevent untold millions of childhood deaths...

Worrying though that some people might not have had the vaccine because of the health concerns. That was what swayed me to let him have the jab.

Same here. I let my daughter have the MMR as the benefits far outweigh the risks. Even if there was cast iron proof that the MMR caused autism, I would much rather have an autistic child than one who's dead from a completely preventable disease.

I never had measles as a kid, not as I recall anyway, but I did get the chicken pox, in fact it was the chicken pox that made me deaf when I was 8!

I was born with measles and have paid the price by being 75% deaf in my right ear. I dont even recognize the difference because I have had the disability from birth and my hearing is really acute in my left ear to make up for the loss. I was offered an hearing aid recently but declined it as I have never had any problem with what I have got..
