Frazer1974
Tesco on Infirmary Road have a collector there with car poppies, stickers, tax disc holders, wooden crosses, etc... every day. As does Morrisons on Penistone Road and Hillsborough Precinct. Other outlets across the city, but those three are our branch (Stannington and District). cgksheff
Ref pink fairy's post, that's the service in Weston Park at the memorial of the York and Lancaster Regt ( including the Sheffield pals battalion of the Great War), and organised by the Regt Association. I haven't heard if it is being organised this year, does anybody know? http://www.yorkshirevolunteers.org.uk/forecast.htm
mdawes
http://www.yorkshirevolunteers.org.uk/forecast.htm ON Remembrance Sunday (November 8th) attention in Sheffield will once again focus on the service at the Barkers Pool war memorial. But Arthur Green would like you to know there is another service going on across the city at Weston Park. For the last 40 years Arthur, a former soldier with the York and Lancaster Regiment’s Hallamshire Battalion, has attended the service at the regimental memorial in thepark. For the last 15 he has laid a wreath as secretary of the former Fontenay Club, World War II veterans. Arthur, now 91, said: “It’s a marvellous service. If only more people knew about it.” Ironically, it has been better attended since Weston Park Museum re-opened and people have been drawn by the musicand bright red uniforms of the band of the Yorkshire Volunteers. The regiment has long been disbanded but Arthur is convinced there are formerservicemen and their families still unaware of the service. It will be conducted by the Rev Canon Will Lamb, chaplain to Sheffield University, and starts at 10.30am. The Star, Oct

Frazer1974
There is also a parade at Stannington, led by the local Royal British Legion branch and including Armcy Cadets, Sea Cadets, Scouts, Guides, etc... March to the memorial for two minute silence, a couple of hymns, then march to the church for a service. Everyone welcome!
