Runningman
I remember the great Beryl Burton one Saturday afternoon at Norfolk Park leaving the field behind and riding the whole of the race way out on the front. Also remember one of the Mottram brothers winning in Norfolk Park. Probably around 1964/5 ?
wornout53
There was no one to touch Beryl Burton in those days. I saw her ride in Norfolk Park and was lucky enough to meet her at York cycle rally.
Blackburnrod
I also watched the race when Beryl and my late wife got away from the field together and then Beryl forged ahead to win alone. My wife,Christine Goodfellow,Beacon RCC was second. The event was sponsored by Sipelia cutlery and I am still using daily the cutlery awarded as prizes. Beryl was a friend of ours and stayed with us several times when racing in the Midlands, usually with husband Charlie and daughter Denise.

I heard that Beryl died on her bike if true then Britains two greatist cyclists Beryl and Tom both died doing what they loved.
wornout53
Yes Beryl died of heart failure whilst out training. She was I think in her late fifties.
Runningman
Was at York Rally, probably around 1988. I was stood with my mate looking at books on a stall. I passed comment about what a cyclist Beryl Burton was. The woman in front of me turned round and said thanks. Yes, it was Beryl, much to my embarrasment !
