Sheff2006
According to Wikipedia, the hole lasted from 1967 to 1994. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Square,_Sheffield#The_Hole_in_the_Road Still can't find exact dates though. hillsbro
The hole certainly dates from 1967, and I remember that the subways at the lower end were open when I worked at the Court House (Feb.-May 1968 ) but the whole complex was not completed and escalators installed until some time in 1968, probably the summer. Yes I will try to get along to the library to see what the event is like. Great photos in the replies on this thread! I think there are some more on the forum somewhere. I vividly remember the fish tank from when I was little but dont remember it getting smashed though. I wonder where the fish went when the hole finally closed for good?
