I'm a Type 1 Diabetic so they don't want my blood. I'm also scared of needles (weird huh?).

Annoyingly my friends keep sending me all these "become an organ donor" things... They know I can't so I just wish they'd stop trying to guilt trip me.

Managed to have a quick chat with one of our RGNs today....

He thought if you've been giving blood for years, then your veins could be quite scarred which would make bruising more likely.....

He suggested next time, if you offer them your other arm and see if it's got tree-trunk veins (!!!!) they could try that instead!!!

I've got so many pin-pricks in my left arm, they could tear me on the dotted line!! :hihi: :hihi:

I went back yesterday and told them I'd had bad bruising the last two times. I still had blood taken from the same arm but this time there is only a small bruise about the size of a penny. I can only think that the nurse doing it this time took a bit more care over it.

That's great!!!!  Maybe the nurses last time were in a bad mood or hungover!!!!!! :) :)

The baby charity BLISS, is encouraging people to donate for baby transfusion!!

I wish I could give blood though I'm an insulin dependent diabetic so my blood isn't of any use. Boo

Those with diabetes mellitus and are stable with medication (medication not changed in 4 weeks) may be able to donate - check with your transfusion centre!!!

There's also going to be a review on the issue of homosexual men donating blood....
