I wonder - if you were a 'perfect' donor, and went EVERY time you could, from the minimum age to the maximum age - what's the MAXIMUM number of times you could donate?

Ok, let's work this out.......!!!!

You can now donate blood at age 17 up til age 70..... I think that's 53 years?? You are now able to give every 4 months, so 3 times a year, that makes 159 donations...

For donating platelets, each donation is the equivalent of 3 whole blood units, and you can donate every month. You have to have donated whole blood twice before being accepted on the platelet panel. So in the first year, your total donation count would be 14 units. After that, it's 36 units per year for 52 years

ok, where's my calculator??!!!!! :hihi: :hihi:

Which is.....

1872 units!!!!! + 14 units for the first year

And the Grand Total is......

1886 units!!!!!

I wonder what the "prize" is for that!!!!

I can't believe I just sat here and worked all that out!!!!!

I use to give blood at work, as the blood van came and parked up for the day.

But because it took them ages to find a vein, and get the blood flowing they took me off the list.

So I would still give it, but they decided there are easier people to get it from.

Was transfused myself,so have probably got CJD and they wont let me give it back :(

Snap.

I had a transfusion in 1974 during a bad illness. I tried after that to give blood, to give something back after it saved my life, but was unable to.

I've tried several times since, but they still hold it against me:huh:

The guidelines refer to transfusion after 1980, not before.. Have a look at http://www.blood.co.uk - the who can donate bit.... Or is there some doubt about the date??? Could you ring the centre to confirm?? :)
