I was born in Killamarsh in`46 and I don`t remember no coal mine `cos it was all swamp and bullrushes, and no matter how big your wellies were the water went over the top. Me thinks it must have been opencast during the contstruction of Rother Valley park during the 80`s.

I moved to Killamarsh from Sheffield around 1955 and lived on the "White City" when it was first constructed, yes you are right it was all swamp and bullrushes+Wardy's scrapyard alongside the Rother,we used to walk up the side of "Fords" garage to go on there, what a lovely place Killamarsh was then,it was opencasted in 1976,prior to this "Bedgreave Mill" was outcropped in 1947,the Americans built a large walking dragline to work on there in the fields straight opposite what was then the Waleswood Hotel at Wales Bar
