Reviving the thread: a group of 8 of us have just had a really superb evening at the Troway: excellent service, great food and ale to die for. The staff really cared about us. A truly memorable evening. We will return.

After several good meals here we went again on Tuesday evening. It was probably the worst eating experience we have ever had. I had a starter which included a poached egg. The egg was cold and the yolk was solid. My wife had Fish and Chips which were, more or less, inedible. My steak was way over cooked and sitting on top of it was a green/yellow object which I failed to identifyMy chips were cold and greasy.

We complained and they did reduce the main course bill by 50%. I have looked at Richard Smith's website but there is no section to post comments.

It will be a long time before we return.

It doesn't sound like we are talking about the same Inn at Troway! How on earth can a pub have such differing comments? And only a few weeks apart? Was the beer good (not that it will make up for a poor meal)

theres the inn at troway and theres the gate inn at troway , 2 far far different pubs please dont confuse them , there nearly next door , the inn at troway with the meals you discribe used to be called the black a moor inn

the gate caters for the true drinker of fine real ales , no food

the moorland is a great meal at the owler bar , sunday lunches all week round a choice of beef , turkey , or gammon , eat as much veg as you like , and all for £3.50 during the week and £5.95 at weekends , its my favorite eating hole

'Hole' being the key word! If you can eat the food at Moorlands you just don't care any more!
