Chris M
Can anyone remember the Cavendish Nightclub ? It opened in May 1967. I was only sixteen at the time so it had changed to Baileys Nightclub before I got in the place in the early 70's. By then the Fiesta Nightclub was pulling in the big names. Can anyone recall the artists who appeared at The Cavendish in it's early days ? I think Dusty Springfield was the first artist to appear there. Chris M
Where was Tiffany's ? Lost count of the number of times I went to the Fiesta. Always seemed to get free tickets - but always for days early in the week so getting up for work was rough. From memory - best acts I saw at Fiesta - Four Tops Tommy Cooper Roy Orbison Gene Pitney Edwin Starr Sam & Dave Stevie Wonder - brilliant ! Can anyone remember what the resident band were called ? Talking of Tony Christie - back in the 70's I was on a bus in a remote area of Yugoslavia and Tony came on the bus radio on a local station singing "Amarillo" and the whole bus started singing along to it - unreal !! Nutronic
I was born in 1982 so I have not been to any descent clubs in Sheffield yet, I have had to put up with the likes of Berlins and Kingdom where it seems to be attracting alot of UNDERAGE girls there known to me as 'Jail Bait'
Janet Olsen
I Used to go to the Cavendish in the 60's, I can remember seeing Herman & the Hermits & also Dave Allen. Could probably remember a lot more had I been sober enough at the time. Les Dawson (comedian) was another ne come to think of it. It used to be quite a good club infact you used to have to queue to get in when it first opened.
Cycleracer
Tiffanys was the white building on London Road. I remember the Fiesta very well and all the top acts appeared there. I once had a ticket to see Dion Warwick and she did not show up. All the crowd were bemused but to save dissapointment they brought in an emergency act to take her place no other than Barnsleys own Charlie Williams. I suppose it wa still a big disapointment people wwanting to see a world renound diva and finished up with a local comedian but a good night was has by all. Funke88
I went to see Marti Caine at the Fiesta. I also got drunk for the first time at the Fiesta... White wine. Tiffany's I definitely remember. Full of 10 bob millionaires with gold medallions. I have this vivid memory of me and a friend drinking Pony (the drink with a kick) and dancing to "Wooly Booly" dressed in high heels and tight pencil skirts. Janet Olsen
I tried doing the woolley bully a couple of years ago after a night on the grog & an equally old mate tried as well, we did OK until next morning when I couldnt straighten my back up & he couldnt walk his knee was so swollen. I find it difficult to believe that we used to spend all night dancing like that.God give me my youth back.
Funke88
So you spent all night dancing like that back then!! LOL They call it line dancing these days. I do the Electric Slide now and again. If God's dishing out youth, then let me know okay.
ruthie
Someone asked about the resident band at the Fiesta? It was the Terry Clayton Band for most of the Fiesta's existence, although initially the band was lead by someone else (can't remember that far back!). Terry on drums, Roger (trumpet), Ken? (sax) - plus various others at different times. There was also a brief period when the Andy Wardough (sp?) band were resident, along with loadsa dancers. Ah, happy days!!
