Sheffield's nightclubs - do you remember...?

Can anyone remember the Cavendish Nightclub ?

It opened in May 1967.

I was only sixteen at the time so it had changed to Baileys

Nightclub before I got in the place in the early 70's.

By then the Fiesta Nightclub was pulling in the big names.

Can anyone recall the artists who appeared at The Cavendish

in it's early days ?

I think Dusty Springfield was the first artist to appear there.

Hiya

I remember some of the nightclubs. I worked at Top Rank and Fiesta - the good old days! Also remember Cavendish/Baileys. Top bands/singers/acts at Fiesta included Georgie Fame, Tom Jones, Mike & Bernie Winters, Tommy Cooper. I was lucky enough to meet them all. Guess you were born 1951 - same age as me. Happy memories.

Also..

Shades up Ecclesall Road. The Ark at Crookes, and of course The Mojo

Also pre Roxys was the Top Rank,Under 16's Tuesday night,3s.6d to get in and over 18s on Saturday night 8s.6d to get in and half a crown a pint.

That was 1968..I was 16 at the time and use to go to both, and sandwiched in between was the Locarno on a Thursday night(a couple of pints in the Hermitage first)

Cavendish was a really good nightclub, You entered from opposite the Black Swan, downstairs and past the Casino, the restaurant was on your right and the main Cabaret Room on left. You then came to an open smaller Cabaret Room and beyond that was the Disco.

I saw Bonzo Dog Doodah Band, Four Tops, Max Bygraves, Harry Secombe, Terry Scott and Hugh Lloyd, Walker Brothers, The Bachelors, Mike and Bernie Winters, Freddie and the Dreamers, amongst others. I seem to remember it being busy 7 nights a week.
