Steptoad
Steptoad, It was the Highway 66........... happy days Thanks Piggyfogar, I don't know what made me think it had been a night club, maybe I just picked up on the vibes of the place. Was it a club in the 60's as the name suggests?
Piggyfogar
Late 60's/70's and more of a disco than a club, but great, great music, tamla, northern soul. I remember the 'pass out' stamps on our hands, and going up a tiny staircase to get up to the Highway.

XC60
Am I mistaken or was there a female DJ at the Locarno in the 60s/70s called Tamala Pamala.
sheilawragg1
I can add Bob Monkhouse I was also there opening night courtesy of free tickets provided by the girls brought in as hostesses and waitresses who lived in the flat below me in Totley. Heaven apart rfom the fact that every night they came home after 2am. in full party mode, and didn't go to sleep until 4am I wasn't there when he appeared but a few friends were, they said he was so filthy they and a lot of the audience walked out. Bob England
I wasn't there when he appeared but a few friends were, they said he was so filthy they and a lot of the audience walked out. I hated Bob Monkhouse when he hosted game shows, on the telly, I found him smarmy, a bit reptilian. One night I saw him at Doncaster Dome. Warm, friendly, smutty, brilliant, the best live comedian I ever saw.
