Chic Billy
My father served in Suez Canal in the 1st York & Lancaster Regiment and I read in the Star back in May that Tony Etches, who served with my dad, got presented with a medal. How could I find out if my Dad is entitled to a medal too. I'm sure my Dad isn't interested but I know his grandkids would be so proud. Thanks. Ref Tony Etches My Bro in law also served in Y & L and would dearly love to get in touch with him again. He often talks about him and what good times they had as mates. His name is Jack Nicholson from sheffield . Would be great if you could let us know how we can contact him. In hope Chic Billy.

911wasalie
Your dad will not qualify, I was in the 1956 invasion when Egypt nationalised the Canal. French and British troops landed at Port Said and the Yoirk and Lanc's were part of 3 Infantry Division.

Just wondered if anyone was a the barracks around the same time and new my Dad. Hallo spencera, I was at pontefract barracks the same time as your dad i went in june 54, did my 12 weeks basic trainning then sent to Egypt to join the battalion. I was in the 201 intake, although it was the same year, it could have been a different intake? their was about 3-4 intake's a year. I do have a group photo of my intake taken at the end of the passing out parade. Take care.
