elan51
While researching my family history I discovered that my grandfather Fred Smith played for Sheffield United Reserves during the 1914-15 season just before the league was suspended because of the war. Does anyone know anything about the history of the club or know anyone who would know? It would be great to see some photos or any information would be appreciated. Redfyre
Get in touch with Andy Pack at SUFC, or the lad that runs the club's museum.
happyhippy
Records of early reserve matches are notoriously scratchy, but what I do know is that there is no record of a Fred Smith playing at first team level at that time. 1914/15 was the last full season of reserve fixtures, though the following year there was a Midland Combination, before the second string was dropped due to the War. For specific players, perhaps contacting Andrew Kirkham (club statto) via the Lane might be the best bet. Hope this helps!
