hearlon
A quick poem, probably a bit rubbish, but hopefully appropriate for Remembrance Day: Mud thudding around And the boys huddled down Screams muffle through deaf ears And here they are remembered Twelve thousand miles hence A village rebuilt Thanks them daily For their fight The boys of Pozieres perished Far from the deep red earth of home And saw not again their beatiful land But their flag flies proud daily Upon this outcrop of the Antipodes Settled forever in the fields of Picardie And here they are remembered
Falls
Two things: First I liked your poem. It catches the mood of the day. Secondly, a question for the WG. As any of you been to the Posieres memorial lately? My wife and I were there in 1998. Back then, it seemed to be about to collapse. Did it get the attention it so desperately needed? Like many other families, my wife has two Great Uncles (19 & 20 yrs at the time) buried somewhere on The Somme. Her father was also killed in the fighting in Normandy but we know where his gave is. I suppose we can't force the youth of our countries to go out to Flanders, Vimy Ridge or the Somme to see for themselves but I'm sure they would benefit from the experience Regards
