Ned Ludd
So, Yorkshire Forward (based in Leeds) charged by HM Government in promoting regional development is putting taxpayers money into building a new Arena in Leeds........ the fact that there is a long standing venue down the road paid in full by the ratepayers of Sheffield is not an issue. Leeds Forward are promoting and part-paying for a competing attraction, threatening the viability of and jobs provided by Sheffield's venue (and we are helping to pay for it) it stinks. If Leeds wants an Arena, their council should pay for it in full and Yorkshire Forward should promote unique local initiatives and not favour the city it's based in by promoting subsidised competition against other Yorkshire towns and cities What next? Are Leeds Utd going to run out with 'Yorkshire Forward' on their shirts?

Skippy06
Got to agree YF need to think about who the represent it is Yorkshire not Leeds. This is something they forget.
Ms Macbeth
I've just looked at this month's news items on the Yorkshire Forward website here: http://www.yorkshire-forward.com/www/view.asp?content_id=9497&parent_id=263 Shock horror! 3 are about Sheffield, 1 Doncaster, 1 York, 1 Wakefield, 1 Hull, and they've dared to put one about Leeds as well! I'd have said that was a reasonable representation.... unless you live in Barnsley, or Harrogate etc?
beansforyou
So because Sheffield tax payers were lumbered with paying for the student games and buildings, you think Leeds shouldn't be allowed it's own arena? Can't quite make the sense out of that to be honest. How many sheffield peoples jobs will be at risk from building an arena in Leeds?
mahonia
Im sure ex Cllr Mike Bower has something to do with Yorkshire Forward, the same Cllr Mike Bower who gave us the Student Games

Didn't say they shouldn't be allowed An unelected body promoting development across Yorkshire shouldn't be funding direct competition in one area in close (and it is close) proximity to another when they are both in the same area being 'regenerated' Jobs....... a couple of hundred? nohands
The Invest in Yorkshire site, linked to the Yorkshire Forward, namechecks Leeds and nowhere else. Looking around the site there seems to be little mention of South Yorkshire. http://www.investinyorkshire.com/
Darbees
This is just another get at Leeds because it's better than Sheffield threads. It will be even better when it has an arena like Sheffield, paid out of taxpayers money, same as Sheffields was/is.
