Strix, who did you go for in the end and were you happy with the work? I'm considering ripping out the bath which we never use (apart from the shower over it!) and replacing it with a shower. Want the floor done (carpet currently - yuck) and the basin and toilet replaced. Also like the idea of cladding instead of tiles!

How long does it take to do a bathroom? We only have the one and it is a small space.

.

We have just had ours done by Woodseats Plumbing. Ours is a very small bathroom, and like you, we didnt use the bath at all. They did everything, we had a panelled ceiling with 4 spotlights, extractor fan, shower run off the combi boiler (its fantastic!) We had the panelled walls, towel warmer, a lovely toilet which is a bit higher than most and goes right back to the wall so that there are no ugly pipes. The basin had a half=pedestal. Best of all was the wet-room flooring, so we havent actually got a shower cubicle, the water just runs straight onto the floor. I still wanted a shower rail and curtain to save all the rest of the stuff getting wet so i bought one of those poles that cling to the wall and searched on the internet for an extra-long shower curtain that just rests on the floor, to save the water going everywhere.

When they ripped the bathroom out they found we had some rotten joists which they replaced, and also put us up a bathroom cabinet (which we bought separately) .

They did a fantastic job, and it looks brilliant. It would have normally taken only 5 days, but because of the replacement joists, and because one of the wall panels was faulty (and they had to wait for a replacement) it took two weeks. I can thoroughly recommend them.

Thanks for that MonkeyLover, sounds very similar to what we need doing, but although I love the idea of a wet room, I think I would prefer a cubicle to keep the water in. 5 Days doesn't sound too bad, just wonder what we'll do re having a wash while they're busy :) - we have a downstairs loo so that wouldn't be a problem.

Was it very expensive? I'll definitely get a quote off them - wish I could get it done straight away but have to save for a few months!

Thanks again

It was just over £6000. We have a downstairs loo as well, but it is directly under the bathroom, and the ceiling had to come down to replace the joists. Didn't fancy sitting there in all my glory whilst they were working directly above, so most of the time i just left them to it, and went out to work or shopping. :hihi:

As for having a wash, for the first week we managed because i can have a shower at work, hubby went to the gym, and my daughter moved out to stay with her boyfriend. They put the shower in on the 4th day, so we could use that, even though the rest of the bathroom wasn't finished, so it wasn't too bad.

Life ground to a halt when I found out I was pregnant and was sick right the way through! I've been a mum for seven weeks now, and am finally getting round to doing something about getting some fitting quotes! The fittings are deffo going to be from HF though, when we've waded through all the brochures and decided what suits us best

If you're thinking of cladding instead of tiles, don't get the hollow plastic type, make sure it's formica bonded to a sturdy backboard. My uncle fitted the extruded plastic type, and the door handle went through the wall before he'd even finished the job!

If you've only got one bathroom, it may be worth considering a Travelodge room for the week - if you book early enough you can get some ludicrous bargains

Thanks for that, now I know how long I'll have to save for (more or less) - is this their website http://www.woodseatsplumbingcosheffield.co.uk ?

I can see why a loo without a ceiling might be a problem :hihi:

Wow - congratulations, Strix!

I'll definitely get a quote from Herbert Fairey as well. And thanks for the cladding tip, I just like the idea of not having grouting and less chance of leaks, which we've had lots of trouble with before.

I'm quite excited about this - and I think the Travelodge is a good idea, possibly cheaper than joining the gym :P

I don't think the website you mentioned is the same company, though i am not sure. It is not the same phone number as i have. (of course, it could be that they have changed the phone number since the website was created)

I will sort out the paperwork tomorrow and give you full details.
