Same here, can recall it well, was just about to finish my shift when this call came through...so sad!!! Yes they did find those who did it, eventually, the stolen stuff was found buried in a garden at Manfield. I probably worked with your dad. RIP David...you will never be forgotten:(
RiffRaff
Is it really 15 years? Ye Gods..... Without belittling any of the crimes in any way, isn't it strange how certain ones stick in the mind? The car park attendant near the Fiesta nightclub, for example....in the 60's? The milkman on his run near Norton - 3(?) years ago..... In fact, didn't they pick up a youth and his girlfriend about that? Don't recall the outcome, though....... Yes ur right they arrested a young lad and his girlfriend for the milk man murder, there has been a story in the star recently about his wife and how she is coping since his death. Nigel Womersle
I last saw David on the morning of the day he was murdered. I was talking to him in the old CDO. I had gone to the registered locker to collect the undeliverable registered letters, in order to return them to their senders. This makes me think he was doing the fatal collection on overtime. I remember attending a union meeting during the 1971 strike, in the City Hall. David stood up and told the Union where it had gone wrong. You could always be sure of an honest opinion from him. A good man.
