john t
fudbeer, sorry mate, winates pass doesn't faze me,never have a problem with it! Another hard one is the last climb on the strines heading away from the a57 towards langsett. Again this steep 20% and 25% but it's long and a bit tough try that for size? cheers jt
john t
qazatory, rutland rd is only 10% and not very long, although at the end of a 90miler its something i could do with out! I've cycled in the pyrenees where 1 climb took me 2 1/2 hrs with no flat or easy parts (tormaulet)from luz side,if you know it plus many other famous climbs that they use in the tour de france! I still wonder how the hell i got up em,used a 39/25 Also there's the alps there not as brutal but are long long pulls! Off there again in july so i use the snake as practice! hope that helps? jt
Jess
I think Winnats Pass must be the steepest in the area. They didn't put it as part of the Tour of britain cycle race for nothing. Also, although it is not strictly speaking a road, what about Frog Walk between Ecclesall Road and the roundabout at the top of Cemetery Road. Its also very spooky at night. Leviathan
I'm sure Lodge Lane must be steeper than Winnets Pass. Lodge Lane is pretty much consistently steep, whereas Winnets Pass only starts to get really steep half way up. Lodge Lane is quite long and also very twisty (especially the nasty hairpin near the top).
Pete1024
To all the cyclists out there: I have never seen a cyclist have the courage to even go up blake street. I have never seen a cyclist on it. I do however see cars in 1st gear. If you wanna try it out, feel free!
bassplayer
I think that the steepest road in sheffield is Blake Street, S6. I lived not far from this road before it was tarmaced over in the late 70's - 80's and to get down it, 1st gear - heavy braking. Then the council decided to tarmac it. Instant death-trap in the winter when it really snowed. Kids would slide down it on black binliners and bail off them before they reached the bottom of the road, because it was a T junction with Upperthorpe Road. Fantastic to watch but dangerous.
