Well done!! You may have inspired me to drag out some dusty half drafts and put pen to paper once more.

I dropped in on your Amazon link...Slightly bemused to find out that people who have bought your book have also bought 'Barak Obama - Dreams from my Father'...

I must have entered your name into approximatley 1000 databases when I was working at Sheffield doc fest, if I remember correctly your business card was in the 'very important people' pile of business cards given to me by heather croall. Random of me to tell you that lol, nice to put a face to the name though! :)

Oh I hope you do. One of the things that inspired me to keep writing was walking into libraries and seeing all those books on the shelves, and thinking "Those books were written by human beings just like me. If those authors can do it, so can I." The main requirement is a will to write and a determination to set aside time and do it.

Iain Broome, who used to run Sheffield's premiere open mic night Words Aloud, has recently set up a blog to help writers who need a bit of encouragement, called Write for Your Life - it's at writeforyourlife.net and the comment trails for each blog entry are full of really friendly people encouraging one another. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I'm absolutely thrilled that my aim of writing for a demographic cross-section seems to be working. The people who love my book seem to come from every walk of life, from intellectuals, academics and hackers, to people who don't normally even read books. One reader, who had only ever read one book before in his 40 year life span, and that was an Enid Blyton when he was a lad, said he couldn't put my book down and read it from cover to cover. And he had had himself marked down as someone who "couldn't read a book." So I am proud of that.

I'm so glad you have told me that luciec! Wow! That has absolutely made my day! :) Heather is someone to whom I really look up for the way as Director of Sheffield International Documentary Film Festival, she and her team have turned the festival into one of the most prestigious and respected Doc / Fests in the world.

It is through being at Sheffield Doc / Fest that I met an internationally award-winning documentary filmmaker who at this very moment is preparing to go the airport to fly to another continent to start researching a documentary, liaising with a contact I've introduced him to. That wouldn't have happened without the Doc /Fest.

Also, Kevin Toolis, of the Channel 4 production company manyriversfilms, approached me after seeing me with my Mother-in-Law Son-in-Law courier bag at the docfest, and is looking for people who are in a real life Mother-in-Law Son-in-Law situation for a forthcoming documentary. The Star has details of that in the print version but not the online version. You can contact Kevin at

info@manyriversfilms.co.uk Or call Sophie on 0207-091-7005. That contact would not have happened without Sheffield Doc / Fest, and let's face it, documentary filmmaking is by far (in my opinion) the most constructive use of film there is.

Thanks, but the problem is that when I clicked on the link, there was a half dressed woman, not a site that I can keep on my screen where I use the internet.

You don't work in a garage, then ? :hihi:

OK the jist of the article, Spyro, is this. Excuse me writing about myself in the third person but you did ask...

Jude Calvert-Toulmin, director of Fleur De Lys Publishing Ltd and an author, has written an erotic novel entitled Mother-in-Law, Son-in-Law, for the existing market of people (approximately 10% of her average 100 daily blog visitors) who were stumbling on her art and music blog having googled the keywords "mother in law son in law sex." Jude met her partner Brian Trevelyan, on an internet forum 7 years ago and fell in love with him without knowing what he looked like, merely by dint of his writing. Her novel inspired by this experience, My Adventures In Cyberspace, is due for publication 27th February and you can pre-order it here.

However as Mother-in-Law, Son-in-Law was Jude's first attempt at writing erotica, she used Brian as a market research volunteer, lying starkers on the bed after a hard day at the office, reading each freshly-penned chapter whilst Jude, monitoring his reaction with a clipboard and pencil, marked down where the writing started taking effect, which was invariably straight away. The survey said "YES!" so now Jude knew her writing was working as men's brains have no control over what their winkles do. Jude's erotic novel is now shooting up the Amazon charts 2 months before the book launch party and Jude is receiving dozens of emails from satisfied readers who are thanking her for spicing up their marital sex lives and are telling her the book is like literary Viagra (only of course, it works out cheaper as the book is reusable.)

See reviews at this page, Spryo which does not contain any naughty pictures (like a granny with a bra on, Oooer Missus!)

Actually, that is hardly a praisee (aka "jist") is it?

Here we are in one sentence then:

Well-endowed Sheffield granny writes chuff pamphlet as sex-aid.

The book launch party, by the way, is the day before Mother's Day, Saturday March 21st, 2pm-5pm, Bungalows and Bears, DJ Ralph Razor, plus Peekaboo Burlesque girls handing out bookmarks and me signing books. All welcome, this is a non-exclusive party for everyone. Local press and photographers will be in attendance so dress up and most importantly have fun! :)
