perplexed
She's been compensated because she was used in a crass attempt to curry political favour by the powers that be. The very ones who critized her competence turned out to be equally fallible and made a mess of her dismissal, thus showing that they did not posess the standards which they expected her to have. Obelix
What happens when a doctor is incompetant and someone dies as a result? Or a company director? Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe that they get a payout of £680,000. You are not comparing like for like. Shoesmith got a payout because she was dismissed in an illegal fashion. The death of anyone "on her watch" is a complete irrelevancy to that.
Cyclone
Do you really think that she was personally responsible for every child covered by Haringey Social Services. Actually you probably do. Isn't that what being head of the department means. She IS responsible for everything the department does, and that includes when it makes fundamental, basic and unforgivable mistakes. If that's the case, then shouldn't the blame carry on upwards, to her bosses and beyond. Why arbitrarily stop at her level?
melthebell
If that's the case, then shouldn't the blame carry on upwards, to her bosses and beyond. Why arbitrarily stop at her level? as Marx said, a scapegoat, and why she got a payout, not cos she's evil like a certain troll keeps insinuating
