Rodgie
Im a student at Sheffield uni and my new house landlord wont let me have my weights in the house. So what Im looking for is a gym, but I would rather one with free weights as I dont get on very well with machines. Ideally Id like a gym where they could maybe teach you proper olympic lifting and squats but would settle for a gym with a range of free weights and a pull up bar. Does anyone know of a gyn like this - hopefully not too far from Broomhill. Thank you
DaBouncer
only Gym I know of with that kinda callibre would be the Don valley gym. They have all free weights (with a few machines... not many) and it's a power lifting gym. Some meaty guys in their to teach you what you need!!! Not very close to Broomhill tho... it's near the sheffeield arena! Go to Ponds Forge and enquire about it!
Geoff
Near Broomhill? The obvious choice for 2 reasons would be the student/university Gym on Northhumberland Road (Street?). It had a make-over a year or two ago and is meant to be quite good - although I've never been What happened to that "Cage" gym that was meant to be opening in West One? Rodgie
Thanks for the replies. I will look into the gym at Don Valley. Do you know anyone that trains there? Do you think they would mind teaching a novice things like squating properly?
DaBouncer
I'm pretty sure most of the regulars wouldn't mind giving you pointers. There are also gym 'workers' on hand for tips n stuff!

fnkysknky
Every small gym I've ever been to has had free weights and usually a few big guys who'll be able to teach you power lifting etc. Probably a good idea to stay away from the overpriced gym complex crap that's spouted up everywhere in the last few years.
