Grande
Have you or your elder relatives any reminiscences about commercial miniature railways that operated in Sheffield, perhaps in one or other of the parks? It's surprising that of all the great northern cities there doesn't seem to be any record of such pleasure railways operating here (except as part of a temporary fairground). My principal interest is in public, commercial lines rather than in those run by clubs like the model engineers or private lines in people's gardens, but any info would be most welcome to feed into a book that I'm researching. Alastair
There's a miniature railway that still operates in Ecclesall Woods.
Grande
Absolutely right Alastair! That's run by the Sheffield Society of Model & Experimental Engineers and is well worth a visit on their working weekends (see their website). But I'm interested in earlier tracks, especially before WWII.
WallBuilder
I think before they moved to their present site in Ecclesall Woods they had a site at the end of Chelsea road in Brincliffe. I remember in the early sixties an oval track that was raised about a foot off the ground.
