Stivi2159W
Hello, I wonder if someone could give me some help/advice regarding the above model Avery just purhased from eBay. The scale was advertised and show in excellent condition but when arrived it was in pretty bad shape. The parcel arrived with the scale laid on its side with an obvious oil spill in the bottom of the parcel and broken glass. The indicater is way off (the photograph on the sale page shows the setting at a perfect '0' position, so I am assuming the scale wass manhandled by the courier even though the parcel was marked as fragile and labelled as to the correct way up. I removed the front cover to take a look for some sort of balance setting mechanism but was overwhelmed by the complexity of the innards. I would love to get the scale back in shape for use but have no clue where to begin. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
BristolFashion
Hi everybody. I live in Bristol and work at a small farm. The packing room has a motley collection of scales and weighing machines and I've recently took stock of the goodies and the baddies... Pick of the bunch is an old Avery 1217 which after a good clean, appears to be a "Rolls Royce product"! I'd love to learn more about it - all I can find online is an image of a certificate from Oz, dating from '73. Does anyone know where I can find out more about this excellent compsct and astonishingly well made weighing machine?

Lignumvitae
Hi, I have had for going on 10 years a Round Dial Avery 10lb set of Scales, Model No A954 71 - Patent No 524,561 - No 1201 CEA / S. 520750. The S. 520750 is beautifully hand painted unlike the previous numbering etc. I would love to know more if anyone could fill me in. It's made in Birmingham and the Mirror work is stunning. Wondering if it's from a fancy Foodhall or topline Butchers possibly pre 2nd World War? Any help appreciated. I bake Sourdough as a hobby. Many thanks. Could anybody point me in the direction of someone with knowledge in this area g You could try contacting local antique shops or auction houses in Sheffield, as they often have expertise in valuing vintage items like Avery Scales. Posting on Facebook Marketplace or eBay might also attract knowledgeable buyers. g
