angelamary
Oh yes i remember working on all of the above wards from 75 until the hospital closed. One of the saddest days, then going to work at Jessops hospital, then when that closed being transferred to the new jessops, i have now retired! Have such fond memories of working at NEH. GCRL
NEH, a brilliant place, my wife had all our 3 Kids there and was cared for on the Milner ward in 1972,1975 & 1977, due to the length of her confinements it felt that i worked there. It seems like only yesterday when we were saying goodbye to the nurses before getting into the car at the top of the ramp.
angelamary
yes i also had my children at NEH in 78 and 79 it seemed very strange on the other side of the caring profession, but i certainly wouldn,t have had them at any other hospital, the care was excellent. Infact i cannot drive past there even now without a tear in my eye. It should never have closed

Plain Talker
My mother died on Cliffe ward, thirty years ago, the head injury unit. In the 70's Cliffe 1 and 2 were surgical wards, IIRC. I was a "Saturday girl" on Victoria Ward, in the 70s, under Sister Batty. It was a head injury/ stroke Rehab ward. I volunteered, (A bit like the American candystripers) and helped feed patients, make beds, and I'd take patients in their wheelchairs around the grounds, things like that. When the hospital was "rejigged" in the early eighties, ISTR there was something structurally wrong with Victoria 1 and 2, so the patients were moved onto Cliffe ward. (cliffe no longer being a surgical ward.) The maternity unit tower stayed open until about 1990, when the maternity services were altered to being only at the old Jessop hospital, and the Northern General. Things changed again, in about late 2000 to early 2001 to having Maternity services based only at the new Jessop Wing of the Hallamshire. I cant remember the maternity tower being demolished, I just recall it being there, and then realising, a while later, that it had gone. My granddaughter was born in 2000 in NGH, and my eldest grandson in 2001 in the Jessop wing.
Norma Morris
Does anyone remember Sister Mabel Leach (was Martin)? She's my Aunt. She was married to John Leach who died in 1980. She has just died, at the age of 94. She was a special lady and I'd like to pay tribute to her at her funeral on 24th March, 10am at Our Lady of Beauchief & St Thomas of Canterbury, 34 Meadowhead, Sheffield, S8 7UD. So, if you knew her and have information that would help me, please let me know ASAP - norma.morris@curwens.co.uk
