Duffems Being brought up in that area and my mum still living on Tom Lane, I had a look last night. Unfortunately the photos are mainly at the Fulwood Road end. There are a couple of Tom Lane photos on Dave Milner's sites but nothing I could find at the Sandygate Rd end: http://citysnapper.org/dm/sheffield/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/sheffdave/collections/72157600259221452/
algy
Don't know if you want to go back that far, but the Friends of the Porter Valley published a report a few months ago about the history of farming in the Porter Valley, and there are a couple of hand-drawn maps from 1637 and around 1800 which include the Tom Lane area. Mind you, it was pretty much all fields!
Alan Belk
Does anyone remember the Vardeys who lived on Tom Lane ?.
Spikee
I lived in Tom Lane from around 1969 to 1977 when I left to get married. My parents lived there until about 1986. We lived nearer the Fulwood rd end and I remember it well.

mikeG
I'm sure my dentist on Tom Lane was called Parkin - but this was 1962. Mind you he was getting on a bit. Could be the same guy.
simonj
I think Lowe & Stanley were the dentists there from the late 60's/early 70's onwards. Can't remember which one of the two I used to see but he never waited for the injection to take effect before drilling
