all looks good, but it seems people can eat for free in that area at the moment, free soup and roll starter at the south seas (mon-fri), and then a little walk and a free main at the notts (tues/thurs)......all we need is another pub to start doing free desserts!

.if people can't afford to eat, they cant afford to drink, and nothing given away is going to change that fact.....you can try hard to get punters in the doors with free incentives but it can lead to price wars which is never any good for anyone. So we wont be offering free food as such, although we do provide free nibbles and snacks for student Societies and anyone wishing to use our up and coming meeting room facilities.....

.if people can't afford to eat, they cant afford to drink,

if people before these offers could only afford to do one or the other, then thats true, but now with these offers people can afford to be a little more sociable, its not a choice of either/or no more, its both! buy a drink get some free grub, its great. you dont seem to get much for free nowadays, so you have to make the best of it whilst its on offer :) only a shame i live two buses away otherwise id eat at the notts every tues and thurs, for the cost of a drink its cheaper (and nicer :D ) than me cooking a meal at home, plus the benefits of meeting new people, not having to wash up and saving on energy bills whilst out the house. dont get me wrong your menu looks nice, and im sure it will go down well with people. im just tightfisted and dont like spending money when i dont have too :hihi:

Napoleons Casino on Eccy Rd do a free curry one night and a free roast and all the trimmings another night. Entry is free by the way. They're also known to give out free soft drinks in the Casino area...Only hitch is that they serve it at 12 midnight...but I guess once your bodyclock gets adjusted it wont be a problem....If you know what you're doing gambling wise you could come out full up and in profit! Can anyone do better than this for a deal? haha

Yes this is very true. Times are hard for sure these days.......but do check out our menu soon, its not too expensive and we think worth every penny. I have just sampled one of our superb Daily Specials myself and cannot get enough of it!!!

Home made chocolate with raisins is also coming soon.......now that is just beautiful.....

PS That may sound like a shamless plug......and it is:)

Hi sorry if I am hijacking this thread of yours Goldenfleece. Thought it would make a nice change for someone to hijack yours as apposed to you taking over every thread remotely mentioning a pub. The offer at the South Sea is a genuine offer as a thankyou for the customers that have supported over the the last difficult 12 months and a warm welcome to new customers. How you can suggest that this is 'trying too hard' is beyond me.This is a short term offer till our new carvery is up and running. This is not meant to be a big advert for the South Sea just the facts about the free offer. For someone like yourself who has been in the trade for such a short time it is becoming a little tiresome to read about how everyone else in the licenced trade is doing it wrong, and how we should all be following the Goldenfleece model. Hope you think about this post and concentrate on making the York a success and stop telling every one else what they are doing wrong.

Actually I was responding to the comments about our menu and about pubs offering free food in the area, which was effectively an invitation to explain why we are not going down the free food route. This route would not be right for us is all I intended to put across:)
