asawin
I remember John Blackwell. My eldest brother Mark (and Michael Thompson, who lived next door to us) on Croydon St, were friends of his, i believe in the 60's and 70's. Building go-carts out of old prams and whizzing down Croydon and Stemp St. i recall they got upto at one point. Hurtling down Croydon and Stemp St on our go-karts made from old planks of wood, pram wheels and rusty old nails. Why do I get the feeling I should know you? PS Only the very brave let rip down Penley St, that being the steepest of the three if i remember right.
Janus1938
There was a large Static Water-tank at the top of Pearl Street where a bomb had dropped destroying several houses and killing an ARP warden. My mother and father and myself were asleep in a Morrison Shelter in the cellar under our house in Summerfield St. I was only 3 or 4-year-old but I remember the awful boom - like a earthquake - everything shook and my ears hurt. (For those too young to remember, a Morrison Shelter was like a steel four-poster bed. made of angle-iron surrounded by heavy steel mesh.) By 1945 it was full of stinking stangnant water and floating debris.
