Texas
I worked as a telephonist for a short while in a small haberdashery shop in the Wicker, Jews owned it, it was on the right hand side going towards town right next to the arches, I think it was a wholesale outlet, that was in the 50s, can't think of the name. I think it was called something like Kaplins now I think about it. Was it Caplan, popps?
sweetdexter
Did there used to be an exchange at the bottom of West St? The first job I worked on as an apprentice painter after leaving school was this building.(Using a pumice block to rub down the walls) There were lots of young females in the building,I had not yet been able to buy any overalls and was devastated when a young girl asked me if I was "Bob a jobbing"

carsupplier
My mother worked at the GPO in Fitzalan Square around 1947 as an evening telephonist. She remembers two supervisors; Winnie Styring, Amy Sleath and another lady by the name of Sylvia Waugh. My mothers maiden name was Barbara Green.
