chinaski
The idea of having a late night coffee shop is a great one, but one that Sheffield can't support. Asking why people would want to go and buy coffee after midnight is as ridiculous as aking why they'd want to pay £3 for a coffee anytime, when they can make a decent cup in their home for 10p. It's a question of percentages. In London and other cosmopolitan cities, there will be a greater percentage of people who will stay out and late and, yes, drink coffee. In Sheffield? No. Sheffield is not a cosmopolitan city full of 'bohemians' chatting about Kerouac, regardless of what some people would like to think. If a place like Bragazzies stayed open late, it would be fantastic. But by midnight you'd just get a bunch of white shirters peeing against the window and asking why they aren't serving ham baps instead of that foreign muck of ciabatta with salami, rocket and mozzarrella. Or students on speed chewing on sugar sticks. It wouldn't be worth the hassle for any businness.
Matt S
As I said my body clock runs till around 5/6am, I don't consider myself bohemian just because I'd heard of John Martyn before he died and I can't think of anything worse than going to a casino after work to be surrounded by a bunch of gambling addicts losing their money. If you read my first post I said that it was an unsustainable idea in Sheffield, not because I think there's a lack of demand (in so much as I don't think it would be full of ****** up morons looking for a fight as there's plenty of places for them to go, I think you greatly underestimate the amount of young people who now live on a much later timescale than the usual 9-5) but the rents of city centre properties are too high to allow independent locals to even attempt it. What I don't like is the fact that someone asks 'why aren't there any coffee shops open late?' and someone replies 'urgh you're a weirdo wanting to stay out late, buy an esspresso machine and read the times online'... I think you're a weirdo for getting up at 7am, but I don't put that do I you patronising tit
mister_tmg
LOL. Yes, I'm not wanting to go to a coffee bar and 3am and meet new friends... when me and a friend have been to the theatre/cinema/restaurant of an evening, we just want to carry on drinking (alcohol or non-alcohol) in an environment where we can hear each other! eclair you are spot on. And chinaski, you say Sheffield isn't a cosmopolitan city... well from what I gather, it wants to be. Are there even any late night pubs?

Proof you are a blinkered fool with zero experience of such places. Your local ex sheff wednesday chairman has some superb facilities around the city and they are free to drink in, you aren't forced to gamble or consume alcohol - hell you could even have a top notch meal ! The fact your last line is a feeble insult speaks volumes.

Vanos
Considering I was a croupier at napoleons a few years back Good to see you held the punters in such high regard. To the op - the banner casino is pretty chilled upstairs, used to be bustling on a thurs / fri / sat but not so these days. Great for an alternative none music club.
