Someone was asking earlier if bank notes are burn in the building - unfortunately the Bank of England no longer burns whole notes :( - see this extract from BoE site :

 

Banknote destruction

Until 1990, unfit banknotes were incinerated at Debden and the heat generated was used to supplement the heating at the site. However, it was decided that it would be more cost effective and environmentally friendly if notes were shredded on site rather than burnt. The resultant material is then used as landfill or taken to an industrial incinerator for burning. Nevertheless, investigations continue for alternative uses of this waste material.

I loved the groovy "turnstiles" that opened to let you in then were power assisted to take you through to the other side. The entrances to the comms/computer halls was via star trek type lift doors too. All the vending machines were on free vend and the orange juice in the restaurant was the best I have ever tasted!
