scottf
After seeing all the buses struggle through the snow and come to a stop during the floods- is it time sheffield starts looking at extending the tram network? They seem to be the only things that keep running on time and also manage to avoid sheffields huge traffic jams that build up during problems on the road system? julado
Another fantastic opportunity missed for Sheffield.... So we have the Supertram.....its limited and should have been extended over the years to serve more areas in Sheffield and to others in South Yorkshire. Proposals have come and go.....small changes to grand plans all come to nothing. Thankfully I am at Middlewood.....but because we have the tram we have no bus service By now this could have been a fantastic transport system
Planner1
After seeing all the buses struggle through the snow and come to a stop during the floods- is it time sheffield starts looking at extending the tram network? They've looked at it already, have made a bid for funding and been turned down by the Government. (Remember that this is the South Yorkshire Supertram, which is administered by SYPTE, not Sheffield Council) The Government told them to look to buses because they offer better value for money. That's why SYPTE have been bidding for funding for the INTEGR8 project, which is a county-wide bus rapid transit and strategic park and ride initiative. Eil-een
How about having a council that takes responsibility for keeping the roads open - it is completely mad that a few inches of snow and all the schools are shut the buses are off - it said on the radio this morning that Sheffield had plenty of grit left so where is it - in Scotland you have the ploughs out followed by grit lorry and roads open - in Sheffield they had plenty of warning - so where were they? Strix
<handsworth, Crystal Peaks, Rotherham tram extension> They're building a new train station not far from Morrisons at Catcliffe, between Darnall and Woodhouse. It was intended to reopen the Station at Beighton, but a heap of moaning jessies got their way and it won't be happening - so a 12 min journey into town isn't going to be possible from Beighton Glad I live in Woodhouse where I can reliably get to town in ten mins {edit} the lines already run through Beighton btw, minimal disruption and investment, and as it'd be a Network Rail issue, less cost and disruption to the people of Sheffield

By all accounts they are doing a good job today (and I was the first to slag em off on Tuesday!). They ain't gonna do your tiny little roads. People in Scotland probably have enough driving skills to also negotiate their way out onto the main roads too. Thats where the problem is. Ram it almost straigt in 2nd and go easy on the accelerator instead of reving the balls off it in first. You'll wheel spin on slush if you do that!
