clockwatcher Posted February 22, 2010 Share Posted February 22, 2010 There was a vinegar factory (vinegar works) at the top of Wood Lane, just up from Anvil Close. It closed in the early 1960's & the building was demolished. Before the Marchwood Road estate was built circa 1960, there was a World War 2 gun emplacement on that site, which would probably have had some sort of barracks. shinysheff Posted February 23, 2010 Share Posted February 23, 2010 164th Stannington cubs and Boy Scouts used an old hut at the "Army Camp" as we called it in the 1950s and possibly early 60s before it was closed for housing.
