Tooeg Posted March 20, 2009 Share Posted March 20, 2009 Years ago I used to call on an old couple at High Bradfield, Jack and Ida Ryder. Jack told me about a bear escaping from the old circus camp at Green moor and killing sheep at Warncliffe side or Oughtibridge. Now Jack could tell a tale, so whether there was any truth in it I don't know. I remember the camp right on the top of the hill overlooking Stocksbridge I think. I've no idea whether it started life as an Army camp or a prisoner of war camp. I do remember it having exotic animals at one time but I can't put a date to it around 30 years ago I guess. PopT Posted March 26, 2009 Share Posted March 26, 2009 One of my wife's relatives was carrying her baby in Ecclesfield when a circus bear escaped. The bear snatched the baby and killed it.
