taxman
I'm sure the next budget will provide lots of help and support and cuts in duty in order to help local pubs survive. Ooh look, I've just seen a pig outside my window

Rich
Best Town Pub? At one time I'd have said the Washington, but IMO it's the Harlequin for their collection of local real ales. Local Pubs? Would have to be either the Rawson Spring in Hillsborough or the Robin Hood at Little Matlock.
slh73
Sheaf View, Washington, Bath Hotel. Red Deer used to be good, as did Frog and Parrot, but last few times Ive been in both, theyve gone downhill.
ratrace
Used to be The Lescar (esp when Paul had it) but sadly no more. Was a top community pub but then 18 months ago was all ponced up and reopened as a 'gastro pub'.The beer went up from £1.65 to £2.70 and is barely drinkable.Hardly any locals (or anybody)goes in now. The Porter Cottage again was once a good community pub, that is before <name removed> became landlady back in 1992.She just wanted it to be a students pub and found all manner of reasons and lame excuses for baring the locals (or for that matter, anybody who had an opinion!). She used to tell the male bar staff there that it was her dream for it to be a male only pub!! - wonder why? The Porter Brook is the only sort of mainstream pub left in Hunters Bar which is OK but doesn't have much atmosphere. aw wth I'm moving to Broomhill, chucks there's no community pub's left there either! (well maybe the Tavern).
