brianthedog
Used to be The Lescar (esp when Paul had it) but sadly no more. Was a top community pub but then 18 months ago was all ponced up and reopened as a 'gastro pub'.The beer went up from £1.65 to £2.70 and is barely drinkable.Hardly any locals (or anybody)goes in now. The Lescar is busier now than it ever was pre-refurb. You should try actually going... Agree about the Cottage though - great pub ruined by the landlady. Agree about the Cottage though - great pub ruined by the landlady. 'Busier now than ever'!!!!!!!!! I've drunk in there for over 20 yrs and am one of the few reg's who still do. Friday and Sat get's reasonably busy but rest of week it's dead. The brewery's that desperate they even asked the old landlord Duncan back, not exactly a sign of a healthy pub!! The type of people who now go in also tend just to have a couple of pints and they're despite spending 1 couple of hrs there.Whereas the old regs would have had several in this time. Years ago all three rooms would have been full most nights, now they don't even open up the back room, so I have to say my friend, you are talking claptrap. theripsaw
The Porter Cottage again was once a good community pub, that is before Cruella Deville (Mandy) became landlady back in 1992. She used to tell the male bar staff there that it was her dream for it to be a male only pub!! - wonder why? . I've heard she's a fan of the male form! The Porter Cottage again was once a good community pub, that is before Cruella Deville (Mandy) became landlady back in 1992.She just wanted it to be a students pub and found all manner of reasons and lame excuses for baring the locals (or for that matter, anybody who had an opinion!). She used to tell the male bar staff there that it was her dream for it to be a male only pub!! - wonder why? The Porter Brook is the only sort of mainstream pub left in Hunters Bar which is OK but doesn't have much atmosphere. aw wth I'm moving to Broomhill, chucks there's no community pub's left there either! (well maybe the Tavern). My OH and I go in the Lescar quite often, the drinks and food are tons better than they used to be. I agree though, it doesn't get as busy as it used to. Probably because there isn't any sport! The back room is usually empty, apart from OH and I Quite like Porter Cottage, yes Mandy does seem to have her moments, but usually nice to chat to. Its a pity its looking a bit run down on the outside. Dont go in Porter Brook these days, odd as thats where the OH and I went on our 1st date.....
