Been in there a few times early/mid 50's. I was intrigued by the terms 'was' and 'used' on the thread, so I did a quick thrash on 'street view'. Now it's a KFC. That's progress.

Absolutely the wrong kind Texas! I went to a 40th birthday party recently for the guy who was the landlady's son - was great to meet up with some of the old faces. How many people are going to remember a KFC with such affection?

Precious few.....

Does anyone remember the old guy who used to play the piano in there.

He played it very badly and used to stand up from time time whilst playing.

The other memory was the free snuff on the bar which was in the biggest snuff container I have ever seen.

It was a pair of rams horns with a silver snuff box set into the base.

Does anyone remember this?

Was this pub built onto the former site of the Owlerton Manor House?

Owlerton Hall,

The hall stood with its back to Penistone Road and faced south west, diagonally across to Bradfield Road which joins Penistone Road at this point, The Royal Hotel forming the corner of these two roads.
