Americana Night at The Grapes on Saturday May 9th will have an international flavour as we welcome Canadian singer/songwriter Don Brownrigg as part of his UK tour. Making a rare appearance with full band will be local man of many talents Tommy R. Jones and opening the show will be another top singer/songwriter in the shape of Damian Sackett. As usual there'll be a whole host of great records between the acts. Doors open at 8pm and entry will be £4.

***DON BROWNRIGG***

Music with spirit. Music akin to roots, folk, blues, and country, Don Brownrigg is a musician's musician. Halifax based Newfoundlander Don Brownrigg's musical meanderings are catalogued on his debut release Wander Songs - a recording of non assuming folk-pop music that has spirit and is sincere and heartfelt in it's delievery. Brownrigg blends folk, blues and country with his haunting voice, morose melodies and pensive writing. Wander Songs is a winding soundscape of thought, as the album is a personal passage through the roots of friendship, the yearning for love and growing into oneself. The album features contributions from a number of notable musicians, including Jim Bryson and Jenn Grant who herself has graced the stage at The Grapes twice in the last year.

***TOMMY R. JONES***

Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tommy R. Jones plays a range of music from rock to funk to grunge to blues to country to folk. His solo offerings focus on the piano and acoustic guitar, but you might also know him from one of the many other bands he's involved in, including playing bass and piano for alternative metal/rock band Machines.

"Piano keys twinkle like a summer night sky throughout and the accompanying guitar sounds as though it has been gently coaxed into performing. Mr Jones' expertise in forging affecting, stripped back songs is plain to see and the passion by which these types of songs will live or die is also present" Sandman Magazine.

***DAMIAN SACKETT***

Local singer/songwriter Damian Sackett open tonight's show. Originally from London he moved North in 2000 where he carried on working on his solo material after his old band had fallen by the wayside. Since being solo he has managed to secure some interesting support slots including ones with Billy Bragg, Mark Eitzel, The Pernice Brothers, Peter Bruntnell and Mark Mulcahy. Currently also playing in Sheffield band The Janskys, he continues to perform his solo material that takes influence from the likes of R.E.M., The Smiths, Neil Young and Squeeze.
