cornishmaid
Can anyone rememeber the name for them ? My Sheffield Nanan had one for making bread and Christmas puddings and I`m sure she called it a Pansion ? They weighed a ton , made of stonewear I think, browny biege on the outside and white inside .
DUFFEMS
PANCHEON was the actual name it means (I think) earthenware pan. They were huge things, I don't know how our grandmothers lifted them, they came in various colours but, the most popular ones were white or brown. DUFFEMS
Yes, that's right "hillsbro", every home had at least one, various shapes/sizes/colours, they must have been handed down in families. Duffems
rubydazzler
My grandma had one as well. It was like this .The ones in my family weren't like that, hills. That one looks as though it really means business I immediately thought of these, http://www.eurocosm.com/Application/Products/Mason-Cash/mixing-bowls-1GB.asp . Very expensive these days though, no wonder they become family heirlooms!
cornishmaid
Thanks, yes Nans was one of the big heavy ones , she gave it to the house clearance people when their old place on Albert Rd was being demolished !!
hillsbro
I bet if you still had it you could sell it on eBay for a small fortune..
DUFFEMS
I had a couple of those which were handed down from my grandmother, however, once the family had left home and we "downsized" I took everything to the charity shop as things like those bowls were very difficult to store in todays' modern kitchen units. Our grandmothers had those enormous floor to ceiling cupbaords at the side of the fireplaces where they stored such objects, I couldn't even close my kitchen door of I tried to put one of those in, shame though.
