The Free Party; it was what Acid house was all about. The second summer of love existed because the music took precedence over the times, a rejection of the corporate Yuppy culture that Thatcherism had caused to engulf Britain, where it was every man for himself and the next pound was more important than the next friend. Acid House changed that, suddenly football hooligans forgot the violence and started telling their life story to complete strangers; hairdressers, plumbers, bank executives and doctors among them. It didn't matter who you were, or where you were from, all that counted was that you were there at that moment.

 

The Bank Holiday season sees Plug hark back to those better days by opening the club up to all for absolutely nowt. Zilch. Nado. Nothing. There's no expense to get into Plug for this Saturday night, it's an expression of love and togetherness back towards the people that make the club what it is. All the guest DJs in the world, all the hallmark production, all the stops that get pulled to make Plug special would be nothing without the crowd that creates atmosphere and vibe. Tonight is rewarding them with the chance to enjoy the frolics without dipping their hand into their pocket. A two fingered salute to the credit crunch and the worries it brings.

 

Musically of course it features the best of the Plug residents battling it out for supremacy. Room one sees the Hallam Floorfillers roughing things up alongside Ollie Hayes and Andy Copeland. The Hallam bods bring an eclectic mix of upfront chart anthems alongside a sizzling ensemble of accessible dancefloor bombs from the past.

Whilst over in the second room LJ Freeman and Geoff Ticehurst get to flex their electronic muscle, showcasing the party vibes that acid house in 2009 represents.
