projectblue
I haven't been here for a few weeks. Ok, this forum has been an incredible help in me trying to identify some old glass negatives I have. This particular one comes from a box of old 7x5 glass negatives that were taken around 1905 in the centre of Sheffield. I was wondering if anybody could help identify this view. I was wondering if this old house had now become part of a public park or something? http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3401/3511414695_33a66fb091_b.jpg
PopT
Is it the old Shore Family home which is now the Masonic Hall on Shore Lane? PopT
mickc
If you go on "Picturesheffield" website and search for Tapton edge house, I think you'll find that's it.
mickc
Actually on closer inspection I'm not sure it is! unless it's taken from a different side of the house.
projectblue
Many thanks for the replies. I've had a good look and I don't think so. Though it's abit close. It's hard trying to identify alot of these old buildings because alot of them are now demolished. I did well to identify Mortomley Hall which was demolished in, I think 1963. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3618/3377463811_0775f6222b_o.jpg
DUFFEMS
It looks vaguely like the buildings looking onto Graves Park at the top. Isn't it now part of Norton Hall? Duffems
AdamJW
though it was thundercliffe lodge for a bit. Pictures dont match up thou. Brick work is spot on but not the same shape. http://www.cohousing.org.uk/files/thundercliffe.jpg
PopT
The Masonic Hall on Shore Lane was the home of Peter Shore who was the father of Florence Nightingale. It does make me wonder if the ladies on the photo are any of the Shore family? Thought this would be of interest. PopT
