echo beach
Hi The Idler & Pop T, Yes, the Greystones Ballroom did get reincarnated as Shades Nightclub in the 70's. Made a few visits during that time. I also believe it's now a casino. Is that Johnny Johnson and the Bandwagon you are referring to Pop T ? Great band.
ptrA
Astoria Attercliffe, Roxy Page Hall, Greystones, Abbeydale, Glossop Road Baths, City Hall and Cutlers Hall. Then came the new ones. Embassy, Azena, Locarno. Not forgetting, Nether Edge Hall, Frechville Co-op. Rotherham Baths was popular too. A lot of my generation met our future partners in dance halls/ballrooms, mine was at the locarno some 50 years ago.

echo beach
Hi PopT Can't say that I remember Velma dancing at Shades. I moved from Sheffield in 1971, however, after getting married and, therefore, only visited the Club on a few occasions.
ptrA
Quite a few dancing schools had public dance evenings. "Fred's" (Fred Holmes) was very popular. Edith Hurst on Abbeydale Road, Connie Grants and the one near the Peace Gardens where you bumped your head at on end because of a low ceiling (Joan Collins, I think) My friend of those days emigrated to NZ too, Terry Orton. The dances were good, it was the long walk home, not so good. Because of very few late busse and Taxi's were beyond teenagers those days.
