The International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) is designed to raise awareness of the impact of homophobia on the health and well-being of lesbian, gay and bisexual people throughout the world and also on the lives of their families, friends and colleagues.

To mark this event, the Centre for HIV and Sexual Health and Sheffield City Council are arranging a one-minute "noise" to speak out loudly and clearly that homophobia is simply not acceptable. They are inviting you to join them in standing up against homophobia.

A number of key speakers will be present to pledge their support and call for an end to homophobia worldwide. This event will take place at Barkers Pool at the front of Sheffield City Hall commencing at 5.30pm, the one-minute noise will take place around 6pm. The event will finish by 6.30pm. The organiser hope you, your friends, families, and partners will be able to join them.

Just found this .........................

SHEFFIELD SAYS "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU TO STAND UP AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA". Following the success at previous years, the Centre of HIV and Sexual Health and Sheffield City Council are arranging "a minutes noise". On 18th May we will speak out loudly and clearly that homophobia is simply not acceptable. As this IDAHO co-incides with the Eurovision Song Contest Weekend, we will be taking our theme from the UK's Eurovision campaign-"your country needs you". We will meet at 5.30pm at Barkers Pool at the front of Sheffield City Hall. Speakers will include the leader of Sheffield City Council. 1 minutes noise will take place around 6pm followed by the performance from Sheffield LGBT Choir-"Out aloud" To find out more about event in Sheffield-Contact Centre for HIV and Sexual Health-0114 226 1900 or email admin@chiv.nhs.uk

not sure who else will be speaking

Got nothing against the event itself, but the "One Minute Noise" thing sounds a bit Orwellian to me.

the basic principle is that we have been quite for long enough. Given everything that has happpened over the years and those that have lost here lives fighting for equality, Being silent would almost be a disservice to them

One minute noise??? Sad sad very sad...get a life.

It is because of the people we will be remembering that i can have said life, if it is said to celebrate what they did for us, If it is sad to want to raise awareness and try and make a change for other countries where it is still illegal to be gay lesbian or bisexual, (often punishable by death) then so be it
