LOVE Music Hate Racism are proud to announce that Asian Dub Foundation are playing in Sheffield in May.

The band, whose distinctive sound is combines hard-driving ragga-jungle rhythms and fast-chat conscious lyrics with myriad influences from Asian music, shot to fame in the late 1990s with the Mercury Prize-nominated album Rafi's Revenge.

They are collaborating with Love Music Hate Racism on a special Beatin' Back the BNP UK tour, which calls at Plug in Matilda Street, Sheffield on Monday, May 25.

The tour has been organised to highlight the fact that the Nazi BNP are hoping to make a breakthrough at the European elections on June 4 and Yorkshire and the Humber is one of their key targets.

A spokeswoman for Love Music Hate Racism in Sheffield said: "We are really thrilled that Asian Dub Foundation are playing in Sheffield to help message that the Nazi BNP and their message of hatred and division are not welcome here and we certainly don't want a Nazi representing us in Europe. Everyone must get out on June 4 and use their vote to block this vile party's ambition.

"We also hope to announce another exciting headlining act in the next week or so.

"The BNP's true ideology was revealed when a policy manual recently came to light, showing that the BNP believes Black and Asian Britons "do not exist" and should be referred to as "racial foreigners". The manual also states that the organisation's "ultimate aim" is the "repatriation of the resident foreigners of the UK". Their leader Nick Griffin talks of a "bloodless genocide" to create an all-white Britain.

"No wonder 200 people turned out in Barnsley to protest when Griffin came to speak at a fundraising event at a pub. That's what we want to see on May 25 at Plug - hundreds of anti-racists of all colours, ages and creeds coming together to celebrate our diversity and listen to some fantastic music."

The gig's main sponsor is Yorkshire and Humberside NAS/UWT. Tickets cost £10 and go on sale in the next few days from Plug's box office on Matilda Street, from Jack's Records on Division Street and online via http://www.the-plug.com. Also visit http://www.lovemusichateracism.org.uk

Love Music is also putting on local transport to the big LMHR festival at Stoke City Football Ground on Saturday May 30. Headliners at the gig include Sheffield's Reverend and the Makers alongside Jerry Dammers, Kano, N-Dubz, The Beautiful South and many more on two stages.

The coach picks up in Rotherham and Sheffield and costs £10 for transport only or £20 including a festival ticket. To book, email rotherhamlmhr@googlemail.com This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
