Dove & Rainbow -Whats your views

I know Lez's room at The Nelson was always loud but upstairs the speakers were sited high which made for a much better loud music to socialising mix. It's the same at most of the 'alternativeish' pubs on Division Street too - hence them being busy.

As for your punters saying it's not loud enough, fair enough, but there's a lot of former regulars like me giving your pub a miss at weekends now.

I take what you say, but there are quiet corners in the Dove. The main speakers are at the far end only, not throughout. The far end is much quieter and people often fill the benches up there chatting away happily.....:)

We did try that last night but sitting on a picnic bench with the constant 'fragrance' of the Gents isn't my idea of a pleasant evening. We moved to the beer garden and, while it wasn't quite as loud, three speakers in a space that small is a bit overkill.

As you say yourself - your clientele last night seemed to be largely pensionable ex-Wap folks. It's good that you're providing somewhere for the old rockers to enjoy a pint!

Only 2 small speakers provide DJ music in the beer garden, the middle one is for the jukebox. I think the music power in the beer garden is no more than about 60 watts RMS which is conversation level in an outside area...

yes we had a lot of older generation of rockers in last night...it varies, some Fridays we fill up with 18 year old metalheads and punks...other weeks its older people, depends a lot on who is playing at the Boardwalk as this effects us a lot...if its a Zepp tribute band or something classic, we fill up with older types.....I like its unpredictability factor:) Some fridays I can play non stop classic rock, other times its punk and nu metal which makes for constant change....while we also have many established regulars, week after week, I like the fact I dont have to stick to a rigid playlist format all the time......

Usually end up in the dove, double spirits @£2.20..brillo! I agree with Ghostrider, the music is loud but you can talk. Why do just about every other DJ,s crank it up so loud? Ruins me chances with the totty. :mad:Not sure why but i think i've managed to annoy the female members of staff?!

I like the juke box as it has a good variety and and the pub is a bit different and caters for a niche market - cant fault the place really - its nice to have somewhere in town where you can dodge towny types and be a disgusting anti social metal head without being judged. I also like The Washington for respite from towny types - although it aint as niche as the Dove. Good publicity for the place this isnt it!

Im going to blame the copious amounts of alcohol I had last night for my brain mis-interpreting that.

2 words I thought I would never see in the same sentence - Niche & Dove

Really nice place, been in a few times.

Went in last time with a couple of friends (we're all bar-staff) and had quite a laugh betting on how many seconds it takes for an empty glass to be cleared, never been anywhere where you can finish a drink and then 20 seconds later have the table cleared. It's nice to see a bar where the staff actually have some pride and professionalism for once!

We try and stay on the ball with this, as my pet hate is going to pubs where table fulls of empty bottles and glasses are left for sometimes HOURS!! have you found anywhere else who clears empties so fast as the Dove?

Sometimes we take drinks off people who have not finished them!!! Thats ok as that means its locking up time and some people never seem to get the message that because most of the lights are off, there is no one else in the pub, and a large bunch of keys is being jangled very loudly in front of them, its actually time to sup up and go home....:loopy:

No the York its not a rock pub, its a real ale pub with a lively feel to it, although a lot of rock on the jukebox. We are very popular with students and locals alike. Its a very mixed bag of patrons, from metalhead students, Camra and real ale buffs, general locals and students, a full microcosm of the area, which is what a good local pub should be.

Sounds good :) As long as it's rocker/goth friendly, it may be somewhere i can take my mates without having to come into town.
