Stocksbridge Development-Retail not Regeneration

Recommended Posts

The next time anyone whinges about why Leeds or Manchester gets better shops and restaurants..... and why we never get premium brands coming here.... and why we always get lumbered with pound stores and charity shops.... and why we are never gonna get a Harvey Nichols or Selfridges.....

Im just gonna refer them to this thread.

Its the same every time.

Stocksbridge is a good 25-30 minutes outside of the city centre, so it's hardly compatible with Manchester or Leeds is it??

In fact I'm sure you could get into Leeds just as quick as you could Sheffield from Stocksbridge it's that far away from the city.

So keep your knickers on.

For somewhere as big as Stocksbridge, there are only 2 pubs that I can think of now

Not even a 'spoons???

What a raw and ferral land.

For somewhere as big as Stocksbridge, there are only 2 pubs that I can think of now. Friendship and much further down the Silver thing. So it won't be drinkers who frequent these new places. I'm sure even pubs were cheaper than these quoted prices, and obviously no wanted to pay that! :hihi:

The Silver Fox is closed.

There is the Friendship (now re-opened), King and Miller and Royal Oak near the traffic lights, The Grouse up near the Spa shop, and the Pen Nook in Deepcar.

There's also a few WMCs - the Legionnaires Club, Lowoods in Deepcar and the rugby club. The Peggy Tub closed last year.

A Wetherspoons would be good though, and I'm sure it would attract visitors to the new shops for a meal, and locals for the cheap beer :)

The silver fox has been renovated and been open about 2 months, they have a good selection of premium lagers (Birra Moretti being one), not so much real ale though, but they now serve pretty decent food at very good prices. I've been a few times now and it's not bad, definitely worth a visit if you're passing.

Perhaps it's the Peroni Grande. I've got a feeling that they cost nearly as much at Pizza Express. They are 650ml or something though and it's a restaurant so the beer will be overpriced.

When I looked at the menu the other week I'm pretty sure it was a draught for £7.2, looking now I can only see the big peronu for £6.90.

The BBC mentioned this in the local news, which is the first I've heard about it. So I looked up the website.

http://www.foxvalleysheffield.co.uk/

What are they hosting it on, a mid level virgin residential cable?

So the website is very slow, and when I finally got the list of stores loaded

http://www.foxvalleysheffield.co.uk/stores

It's rather short and not very inspiring.

I guess I might go once, just to check the place out, but I can't see it being somewhere I'd go to shop often.

The bike shop could be interesting...

I feel the development when fully open is just what Stocksbridge needs, one thing though that is putting me off with regard to Pontis, is that whenever you enter the development from the by-pass i cannot help but notice a lot of the kitchen staff congregating around a rear door and all smoking.

I appreciate that this might happen in a lot of restaurants, but this is something i would not want to see if I was planning on eating there.
