swordfish1
Does anyone know of anywhere in the town centre area that does good food and real ale? I've got a mate coming over with his wife and he's asked me the above question. As I usually only drink in pubs, I have no idea of recommendations for ones with decent food. As he's from out of the area, it needs to be town centre so I can explain it easily to him. I posted the same question yesterday, and am hoping the thread was deleted due to the problems that the site was having yesterday. If it was deleted because this is a duplicated question, could someone please provide a link to the other thread, as I have done a search. Ta. Sharp87
No, not really. There are plenty of places with 1/2 ales that do food but no true ale havens that offer a decent food option in town centre.
bkcin
Devonshire Cat is pretty good.

sophiec1979
are you after a lunchtime or evening meal? the red lion on charles street does food at lunch time and has several real ales on offer. x
BasilRathbon
It's many years since I frequented the place, but the Wig & Pen on Campo Lane has had some good reports on here in the past.
splodgeyAl
It sounds weird, but Bungalows n Bears do a couple of realish ales and top pub food - homemade pies, burgers and chips, get this, made from potatoes! The W&P is ok, but they need to clean their beer lines more often
neeeeeeeeeek
Food in the Old House on Devision Street is quite good. All depends on what you class as good though. Not sure about ales but they sell Adlestones cider so they might sell real ale.
Andy C
Devonshire cat is probably the best bet, however wig & pen, bungalows & bears, old house or ruskins should be ok.
neeeeeeeeeek
Most of those sell similar food, the cat has more beers though.
