Andy C
last year we filled a tent in a park with beer, cider, music, food and general happiness and you flocked in and drunk us dry! We are back in Cemetery Park in 2009 for our 35th annual Steel City Beer & Cider Festival, bigger and better than before with more real ale, more cider, more continental bottled beers, more food, two marquees, better toilets and better underfoot conditions! Come along and enjoy the great atmosphere, fantastic choice of beer, cider & perry. Each evening we once again have live music for your entertainment. Or if you prefer it when it is a bit less noisy, come during the day when we will be hosting things like a pub quiz, beer tastings and more. Here is the information you need: Thursday 1st October: open 6pm to 11pm Live music - special mystery guest band! Entry £2 (free for CAMRA members) plus £2 for your festival glass (refundable) Friday 2nd October: open 12pm to 11pm Entry £2 before 5pm, £3 after (CAMRA members free before 5pm, £2 after) plus £2 for your festival glass (refundable) Afternoon entertainment: Tutored beer tastings Evening entertainment: Live Music - The Unforgiven Saturday 3rd October Open 12pm to 11pm Entry £3 (CAMRA members free) plus £2 for your festival glass (refundable) Afternoon entertainment - charity pub quiz Evening entertainment - Live music : Treebeard As usual, we will be using beer tokens to pay for drinks, this speeds up service at the bar and improves security. Buy tokens from the token stall. New this year we will be selling fast-track admission packages for £10 including entry, glass and beer tokens, with a discount for groups who book in advance. All the organisers, management and staff at the festival are unpaid volunteers who do it because they enjoy it, believe in the event and get it all for free! We are looking for CAMRA members who would like to work as a volunteer - see the website for details. On the beer front, expect a showcase of what our local brewers have to offer along with some new and interesting beers from the rest of the UK - plus the odd old favourite here and there. There will be around 100 different beers to choose from. Getting there: The entrance to the festival site is on Montague Street, which is just off Cemetery Road by the Vine pub. You can also walk up to it from the Pomona pub on Ecclesall Road. Buses 3, 4 and 22 will drop you off by the Vine, or buses 65,80,81,82,83,84,85,86,88,214,240,272 will drop you off by the Pomona. Smithster
Excellent. This was fantastic last year, and I've got my CAMRA membership this year! Can't wait. Gonna make sure I get down early though cos a lot of the beers I wanted to try had sold out by the time my friends and I got there last year. olilew
i can't believe this is outside after last years wash-out and 5 minute band performance(saturday night), england in october? it needs to be inside like it used to be.

mr craig
I see that the organizers of the festive took absolutely no notice of last year criticisms and decided to do exactly the same this year.
bluesbrother
CAMRA... Supporting LOCAL PUBS... 'Let's have our beer festival in a tent'!!! Sometimes I wonder! Anyone got the time to set up a 'REAL' real ale group? I wish I had the time.
Andy C
i can't believe this is outside after last years wash-out and 5 minute band performance(saturday night), england in october? it needs to be inside like it used to be. If you can find a suitable indoor venue in Sheffield within budget you're doing better than us...and Cemetery Park certainly seemed an improvement over the run down scruffy working mens clubs in dubious locations we've used in the last few years. Lessons have been learnt, remember last year was our first ever tented festival and we had the worst ever weather and record attendance. This year there will be improvements to conditions on the ground and site layout, there will also be more toilets and a choice of caterers for food. Also more beer! The rather shortened performance of the band on the Saturday night last year was following the complaints of a local resident living off Ecclesall Road, the music programme this year will be a little less loud and the changes to the site layout should also help prevent that happening again. Bluesbrother - don't really understand your comment - don't think many landlords would be too impressed if we set up our own bar in their pub! The beer festival is all about showcasing real ale and real cider. We have pub of the month awards, community pubs week and other initiatives to promote good pubs. Of course, those attracted to the city by the event may choose to wander round some of the local pubs after their visit to the festival...
Andy C
We are now taking group bookings for the festival. Why not hold your party or after work social at the Steel City Beer & Cider Festival?! The special group package is available to parties of 6 or more that book in advance and costs £8 per person including admission, programme, glass and £5 of beer tokens. Andy C
Things are nearly confirmed on the food side. We plan on having 3 food stands at the festival this year to give a bit of choice - Yuley's Sausages, serving German Style sausage sandwiches cooked on a charcoal grill, with a choice of Bratwurst or Ham & Paprika sausages and a selection of sauces. - Select foods inc Proper Cornish Pasties and Ploughmans lunches - Stuff-in-Oatcakes (apparantly the cheese and bacon one is quite nice...)
